5 November 2021: LEGOLAND® Discovery Centre and Make-A-Wish® Australia have come together to create the ultimate LEGO® day out for one special young boy.

A passionate LEGO® enthusiast, 11 year old Lochie Howcroft has been declared ‘Mayor of Miniland’ and taken on the important job of ensuring LEGOLAND is ready to reopen to the public after being closed for the past three months.

Lochie, who was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia, spent the morning at LEGOLAND testing rides, ensuring all the special effects are in working order in the 4D cinema, and getting insider tips from Master Model Builder Kieran Jiwa.

“LEGOLAND® has been closed to the public for 91 days, and we couldn’t think of a more exciting way to get ready for our official reopening than by welcoming LEGO-loving Lochie to the attraction and handing him the reopening reigns!” said Master Model Builder Kieran Jiwa.

Make-A-Wish® Head of Wishes and Imagination, Keira Blake said “Right now, due to the impacts of COVID-19, Make-A-Wish has more than 800 critically ill children waiting for their life-changing wish.

“We’ve all had a glimpse of what it feels like to wait for hope this year. Helping sick kids find hope is something we all have the power to do. We’re grateful to LEGOLAND for their support and inviting Lochie to be the Mayor of Miniland today while he waits for his wish to come true.”

Located at Chadstone Shopping Centre, LEGOLAND Discovery Centre is an indoor LEGO playground that features MINILAND Melbourne, two rides, multiple build and play zones, soft play zones, a 4D cinema, and a LEGO retail store. The attraction is designed specifically for families with children aged 3-10.
